JanieStrong

Janie Brennan Bordinhao

On May 8, 2017, after returning from teaching in Thailand, Janie Brennan Bordinhao was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Friends and family came to her side with a movement called JanieStrong while she received treatment in Las Vegas.

In November 2017, she had a bone marrow transplant in Tucson, AZ. Her brother, Jansen, was her stem cell donor. She responded well, gained strength and returned back to Las Vegas.

Life became relatively normal as Janie's immune system grew stronger. Janie enjoyed traveling, spending time with her friends and family,  and decorating her condo. She was adjusting to life as a 26 year old girl. Her biggest thrill was landing a teaching position at Dr. Beverly Mathis Elementary School as the Social and Emotional Learning teacher. She was back in her groove!

November 2018, after a trip to Joshua Tree National Park and Temecula, CA, where she won a royal flush worth $1000, she wasn't feeling well. Tests revealed the leukemia had returned. It was a devastating blow, but in typical Janie fashion, she was determined to be a back-to-back survivor.

Treatment resumed.  She was in the hospital over Christmas mustering up the courage and strength to forge ahead. Her beloved comfort dog, Buddy, died in his sleep the day after Christmas. The following day, Janie suffered a stroke. Sadly, her decline was imminent. Janie passed away January 15, 2019.

Janie is loved and cherished by so many... it is our goal to have her spirit live on in the lives of children and others. May you grab some JanieStrong and run with it.

All proceeds of merchandise sold on JanieStrong.com will go directly to The JanieStrong Foundation.

The JanieStrong Foundation will support causes that are near and dear to Janie and her battle to beat cancer. Specifically, her clinic, Cure 4 The Kids and Dr. Ikeda, were instrumental in her care and the ongoing care of other children afflicted with cancer. Our goal is to help support a classroom at Clinic where children can continue to receive academic support while undergoing treatment.
